Preparing for Tanzania

Preparing for Tanzania...

If you would like to help Maggie in Tanzania with the Dare pads they would appreciate any donations of these microfiber cloth packs of 10 from Carrefour. If you would like to donate please bring them to the next volunteer morning on the 4th November or contact Nalini for a drop off. We will bring them with us next month when we go for the distributions.

We are also looking for any used bags no longer needed that we can use for our upcoming distribution. What we learned last distribution is that it is better to bring bags that we CAN LEAVE as they truly appreciate the luggage too.

We are in NEED OF the IKEA Blue bags that zip all the way, as seen in the picture below.

ALSO we are asking if anyone has any LARGE duffle type bags that they no longer need (see below). We would appreciate any donations of such. The ones on wheels but no extension handle are the best in terms of weight and portability but we will consider all

Tanzania

Tanzania distribution

Hi Ladies, thank you to those of you who signed the sheet expressing an interest in going on the Tanzania Distribution Trip next month. Tentatively we have dates for the week of the 11th or the week of the 25th. This will be a distribution only, no sewing as we are now working in conjunction with an existing Enterprise there. If you were not at the last volunteer morning but you wanted to express an interest please contact me. You would be responsible for your own costs and it will be a home-share accommodation set-up. We think it will be a few days in duration. Many thanks.

Ethiopian Airlines

Hi lovely ladies, if anyone has any contacts at Ethiopian Airlines please let me know. We are looking at the best available routes, airfares from Muscat to Arusha and maybe Ethiopian is the best through to Kilimanjaro airport then land transfer.

Volunteer morning tomorrow

TOMORROW is our volunteer morning. We have lots going on at the moment with preparations for our upcoming Distribution in Tanzania so it is all hands on deck
In an effort to REDUCE PLASTIC WASTE at our volunteer mornings please can you bring along a filled REUSABLE WATER bottle, this will be a new habit for us all to create together.
Here are a few messages ....

1. Tomorrow if you are interested in SEWING SHIELDS then please bring your machine and an extension board and an empty bobbin. Our lovely always smiling Lise is on hand to teach any EXPERIENCED sewists. You really need to be experienced to do the shields. Beginning sewers keep reading below as there is another project for you all.

2. Tomorrow we also begin our DFG Daisy Liners. These are simple cloth washable panty liners that we are making and selling at craft fairs to raise funds for our distributions and materials. This is a NEW project. The level is beginner but you should know your way around your machine, be able to thread it, thread a bobbin and know how to judge a steady seam allowance. We will also require ladies to trace and cut fabrics, iron and assist. Please bring your machine and an extension board if you have one and an empty bobbin. We are hoping that by taking the step from drawstring bags to Daisy Liners you will get the extra confidence and skills required to then move onto shields.

3. TANZANIA. This distribution is definitely more of a challenge in terms of planning and organisation but slowly , slowly we are getting there. We are sourcing sponsorship for one or two tickets to ARUSHA and baggage - more details shared later. We envisage the trip will be about 5 days in total.

However a few ladies have approached me and asked if they could assist with the distribution and pay their own way. Tomorrow we will gather names for this and if you can't make it tomorrow then please contact myself or Nalini directly. If you are interested in joining then it will be necessary to undertake the FREE REVISED Days for Girls Ambassador training course on-line. This is a self paced course and in the end you will take a test and then receive your certificate. We will discuss this more tomorrow. To take a look now please go to https://www.daysforgirls.org/become-an-ambassador-of-womens…and then REGISTER for AWH101.

We love our morning coffee break and if you feel inclined please feel free to bring along any baked goodies you would like to share.

COME ALL, COME FRIENDS, together we will lighten the load for another girl or woman who needs one less worry in their lives.

Testimony

Take a moment to read this lovely testimonial from Happiness who received a Days for Girls kit...
REPOSTING From Susan Rowe
I am Susan, leader of the Durango DfG team along with my co-leader Sally. I went to Tanzania in the spring with a Health clinic and also helped to distribute 260 DfG kits to a secondary school. More kits were distributed to an orphan school where Happiness is a student. Although I didn't get to meet Happiness this testimony letter was just sent to me and I wanted to share it with ALL of you .It is so wonderful to hear how the DfG kits are so important in helping girls around the world and we as volunteers are helping boost their dignity and "Happyness"
HAPPYNESS M. KIT TESTIMONY
"My name is Happyness M. I am happy to have my girls kit. I use to have problem and fear before I got my Kit. I was much worried when approaching my days. Sometimes it starts when at school and I was forced to go back home or ask my parent, teachers and friends for help. I had hard time on how to get clean clothe or money to buy the pads.Sometimes I used old clothes that were not promising and this worried me a lot. I hate being born a girl.
But now Iam happy. I have a lot of confidence in me.I can attend lessons without much worries. The reason is only one.
I have my girls Kit.The kits help me stay in school season in and out. They are easy to carry and to use. When you put them on, you feel comfortable. I can wash them easily and keep them best.
I don’t use money any more or worried about what to use or where to get money. For they are long lasting, it gives me even hope for tomorrow and days to come. When I wash them I must be very careful. My friends and neighbours want them too. It is only that I cannot share them, I love my kit so much.It is mine and mine alone!
Happiness M."

Don't forget to join us for the NEXT VOLUNTEER DAY - Sunday 7th October!
